Hi. I'm Nelson.
You know how most people have those very cool, minimalist sites? Welp, that's not me. This site is a good example of who I am - complex, curious, human.
The first thing you should know about me is that I'm not great at self-promotion. But since I am a solopreneur and all of that, you probably should know who I am and what I'm all about.
Despite a lot of objective evidence that I am actually pretty good at what I do, I very much struggle with imposter syndrome. My entire life, I've been told I need to speak up and share more because I have valuable things to say. I was diagnosed with ADHD late in life, and suddenly everything made sense - the hyper fixations, being really good at reading people, the spider web thinking, the overthinking, the social awkwardness (i'm so sorry), the inability to stay in one lane.
While I'm still learning to be comfortable with and harness it to its full potential, I've started to realize that this neuro spicy brain of mine has been my superpower all along. I'm appreciating the journey.
I've always been fascinated by humans. I've been measuring their behavior for about 15 years. I started my career in professional baseball during the Moneyball era, where I worked in some of the best front offices using analytics to find competitive advantages. Then I realized the same skills that help you understand on-field performance could help you understand employee performance. So I took that into tech, built and led people analytics teams at top orgs using data to measure and improve the employee experience.
These days, I'm all in on AI - not just because my brain clicked with it immediately, but because I believe it can augment human's intelligence just like how it has for me. I've used AI every single day for almost three years. The potential for positive impact blows my mind. It has been the perfect target for my hyper-fixation as I think it's the most significant technological shift in our lifetime.
I'm building what's called an AI portfolio career: multiple ventures all powered by AI, from consulting to products to media. I'm essentially running an experiment to see what one person augmented by AI can build. Turns out, quite a lot.
In addition to AI, I'm also trying to lean into discovering who I am as a person. What really drives me is curiosity and continuous growth. I am obsessed with learning. It leads me to deeper self-awareness and the courage to be my full self. I think it's critically important to know who you are and take that to create a life that's meaningful to you. I'm not afraid to say I want to be great and make an impact on the world, but let me be crystal clear about what that means to me: when I open a door, I hold it open for folks who look like me who haven't had the same opportunities.
I don't believe in gatekeeping, I don't believe in 'you have to struggle because I did' bullshit.
Progress over perfection. Curiosity over expertise. We over me.
Welcome to my Bell Hooks era.
Thanks for being here.
